What happened?

What happened to the Cowboys. How's does a team go from 7-3 to 8-6. They look like they're not trying sometimes. I'm a little ticked that their playoff chances lie more in what the other teams do. They are too good of a team to not be playing in the postseason. They are the NFC Chargers. 90% of their games are won or lose in the 4th quarter.
